You cant do it, simple as that. Only people to do it are the people at friendtech, because they did the research and bought thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

I know there is a tuto on how to replace your cpu. Just google it really, but it's not as simple as putting it in a socket btw.

i dont even think it is a socket. im too lazy to look at the one a parted out, but it could be soldered into the board. i know that heatsinks not a joke to remove either

It is virtually impossible to replace the CPU inside an Xbox without specialised tools, it is mounted on using a BGA (Ball Grid Array), similar to the way Celerons and PII/PIII chips were mounted onto SEPP/SECC cartridges and the way notebook CPUs used to be mounted onto their motherboards. It works by placing alot of solder balls onto the surface of the motherboard/circuit board, the CPU is then placed ontop and then some heat is applied. The Xbox CPU is a Pentium III 733 MHz with 128K of L2 cache, not the fastest even at time of release.

Actually the CPU can't even be considered a full PIII since it is also shares characterisics exlusive to a Cerleron.

yeah, I would think it would be intigrated somewhere in there, making it harder to just take out by a simple user...

If you know M$ like I do, the last thing they want to do is replace a whole xbox for free because you messed with the cpu...

Wouldnt the warranty be considered voidif you opened the xbox though? they wouldnt be obliged to replace it would they?

They wouldn't replace it anyways because once you open the case the warrenty is expired.

whats the point of doing it any way (i thught the games wouldent work if you changed it any way) or are you doing it so you can use it as a computer???

Most games work alright still, some a little faster (good or bad depending on game). The best reason to use it is either for Linux, a Media Center if you have lots going on, and especially the PSone and N64 emulators, and Mame. Makes them run better
