I believe the PS3 will use bluray disks...They are super expensive right now, and they only have one or two layers so far...I think.
They will definately come down in price in the future though, and I don't really know how far they'll come down, but I would guess something similar to current day DVDs.
umm im not positive, but i dont think blue ray disks are actually out to buy yet... i think the whole technology launches this summer or fall (i think)
They Still only have prototype Bluray Recorders atm so i don't think it's actually released for us to buy. It probably won't be for quite a while. Maybe around the same time the ps3 comes (2 or 3 years tops).
There are Blu Ray players in Japan already (im 95% sure on that heh)
There are currently first gen Blu-Ray players right now in Japan. They are extremely expensive.
The PS3 for certain will use Blu-Ray. Microsoft is leaning towards, according to inside sources of mine, using DVD9 disks with some kind of compression. They may still change their mind and go for HD-DVD, but I doubt Blu-Ray since the Xenon is coming out this year.
yea blue ray is out, its a technology made by sony and probably won't be used by micro$oft in their xbox because then they would have to pay sony for every game. Blue ray discs have the size of an entire HDD onto a dvd..pretty amazing, and the quality is superb..so yea..

I was Refering to the recorders but i had no idea that they already had readers out in Japan. Damn makes you think if we need to slow down on things cause we're moving pretty damn quick in terms of new technology...
Blu-Ray disks:
Single layered=25 GB
Dual layered =50GB
HD-DVD
Single layered=15GB
Dual layered =30GB
Aren't there plans for 400GB discs or something along those lines eventually? 16 layers was it?
I thought MS was leaning toward HD-DVD, oh well, we'll see at the end of this year hopefully
I was under that impression myself. I'm pretty sure that's going to be the case. Well, as you said, we'll have to wait and see. I'm sure this years E-3 will clear this matter up.Originally Posted by Borman
And who knows what nintendo is going to use.
Sony will most likely use Blue-Ray disk's... but i must ask, what diffrence is it really going to make...
Nintendo is gunna use massive 8ft by 8ft pieces of cardboard like paper for a massive e-reader type device for normal home use! (kidding).
And sony IS using Blue Ray, i think theyve confirmed that much.
The only difference i could see is in a huge game, you could have lots of videos, and many many high res textures and models. I dont see either of the formats filling up a full dual-layer disk anytime after launch.
No, I don't think they'd fill it up right away. But it would give them a lot of possibilities given that much space...
