    Default Torrent crap speeds....

I've followed a bunch of guides for increasing torrent speeds... I've opened the listening port for BitComet, as well as 10 ports after that number. I have the port opened in windows firewall... And I still get speeds of 10 kb/s max on everything. I can understand if its 2 seeds and 159 peers, but when I look at the peers page, everyone else is going at like 50 kb/s while im going 5 kb/s.... Any suggestions?

well, Hi again. It depends on a number of things

It depends on how many seeds are there, how many of them are not maxed out on uploading files to the other peers, and what your settings are for uploading and downloading.

What I found out is that the more you upload on a torrent, the more you download, so I put it for the max both ways, and it gets done. Might just be your upload/download rate on your connectio to the Internet. I had some go slow, some go fast, I'ts a see-saw out there...

Yeah, I have my max upload at 100 kb/s. I max it when I am sleeping and at school. At first I thought maybe I was getting unlucky with my torrent files, but then I checked the peers page on BitComet (great torrent client), and there were people flying at 50 kb/s, so I thought maybe I am just sucky.

the seeders are probably maxed out, so they can only give you 5kb/s.... not 25kb/s

Believe it or not the peers upload as well as the seeds! OMG!

But yeah, how many other users getting good speeds are using bitcomet?

Don't use BitComet. First it is a bad client, second it is a leecher client.
Try disabling all your protections for a short lenght of time, only to see if it's your firewall blocking the way.

I'd reccommend Azureus. I regularly get download speeds of 40-50kb/sec on it.

For the average user, I think BitComet is easier to use, but Azereus has tons of customizability! BitComet is more eyecandy though.

oh ok... I used to use Azureus, I wanted to give BitComet a test run though. I don't think I got good speeds from Azureus, I will see soon though.

And about the firewall thing, I tried that. In fact I found out I accidentally had my firewall disabled not too long ago. Had a few trojans to clean up.

EDIT: And Azureus uses a lot of system resources, and BitComet used C++ for programming, so it tempted me.

Yeah, BT clients are something of a mixed bag for a lot of people. After trying quite a few I found that Azureus was the only one that worked well for me, but I know other friends who haven't had as much luck with it. The overall performance of each different client seems to vary from computer to computer, sadly. The strangest thing though is that I really didn't need to configure Azureus at all. All I did was select my connection speed and the download path, and despite the lack of tweaking on my part it's worked perfectly ever since...

Same here, Azureus seems to work the best. And that's after trying a bunch of clients.

I'm also getting slow speeds like 5kb/s or 10kb/s. It usually takes likes 3 days to finish something.
