    Default Broken Dreamcast woes.....

I just bought a DC today and much to my dismay when I have it hooked up, it acts as though the A/V (well, actually, RF) switch isn't plugged in at all. The light comes on, and the disc spins, but nothing on the TV screen changes. No sound, no video. Can anyone help?

And I've tried 2 different RF Unit's, and nothing. So I know it has to be the system, and not the RFU.

(Mods, please move this to the appropriate section, as I have no idea what that section would be)

Man, that sucks The DC I have has a semi-loose RF connection on the back of the unit, so sometimes mine does the same thing. When it does, I usually just reach in (it is inside my computer's cabinet on my desk) and press in on the plug. The video comes on, and it is fine until I happen to move it again.

I edited the title and moved to general gaming

Try to get your hands on an A/V or scart(Euro-connector) cable and see if it works(ask to borrow it from someone, or buy it then return it if it still doesn't work). If that doesn't work, then it may be the DC's output plug itself that is fuxxored. Or it may be a problem with your TV's RF plug, testing the cables I mentioned might work. Also do as Sprung said, fiddle around with the cable. If it's your DC, then that really sucks.

You're lucky that nowadays you can buy them quite cheap, but don't go out and get another unless you're sure it's your console that is giving you problems.

My TV does it all my game systems, so it might be the A/V connectors that come from your TV...Maybe???

rf is the shittiest connection ever, if your tv supports scart get one the picture is amazing with scart. and if you if you dont have scart you prolly got the yellow, white, red rca\av lead whatever its called in your region get one of those.
sometimes with rf it needs to be tuned in, so turn on the dc and go to the menue on your tv and pick auto tune or you might have to manually tune it

english dreamcasts try to come in on channel 36 and the lil switch has to be set on i, I believe

Well, I hate RF connections. My NES sucked because that's the only way I could use it. Luckily for me my DC has the yellow/white/red lead thingys. However, I had another problem for some time. The console just wouldn't want to read any disc. I always had to be cleaning the lens. Then I stopped using it for awhile. Now that I use it more often, there's no problem! Weird, huh?

I admit. that sounds weird and freaky at the same time.

Yeah, I even had to call for support, but they couldn't even help me. Anyway, I'm happy it works now.
