One thing many people(in the US particularily) don't realize is that just because Latin/South-Americans and Spaniards speak the same language, it does not mean we are of the same race(no prejudice here, btw).

All Spaniards are white, since Spain= a European country, while not so many hispanics are white. I hope this clears things up.

I'm aware that Spain was once inhabited by the moors(Arabs)... but I like to think of Arabs as white people... Seriously, few Arab people I have met are actually even tanned. The people who can't tell the difference between Spaniards and South/Latin-Americans are indeed ignorant, at least the ones I know to have said such a thing. They like to pretend 'mariaches' and bullfighters have something to do with each other. :P Many Cubans are white, so that may confuse some people.

I too hate the Spanish accent when present in English. Undeniably cheesy. Fortunately I have absolutely no accent when I speak English, and I can easily pass for an American if I don't state my last name(Arencibia). If you're talking about the mainland-Spanish accent when speaking Spanish, I despise that one too. :P It sounds a bit arrogant IMO... like they pronounce the letter s as "sh" and c as "th"... weird if you ask me, but it helps to identify people from different regions.

I have a slight accent from the people of my province(Las Palmas), which sounds a bit like the Argentinan accent(not much), very laid back and calm accent, in which we often drop the s from words.

Yeah, Brazil was pretty much assigned to Portugal by the Spanish Crown back when they conquered the territory and divided the land... The rest went to Spain... The northern part (as you might guess) went to the UK...

Yes.

The agreement for the America's was based on lines of longitude (or is it latitude... can't recall). Anyways, Portugal ended up with all of that which is to the east of the line you can sort of draw, and Spain got the rest, more or less. I don't really recall, but that is the bulk of it. France may have had it, and sold it to Portugal or something, but yea, there is most definitely a historical reason.
