PSP Japanese Price & Release Date

It's possible because Sony make most PSP components themselves. They won't have to open up new manufacturing plants to manufacture the parts either as they can use already established plants that currently is making parts for PS2 and other Sony products.

Doing this allows them to keep cost down, but that doesn't mean they are going to make a profit on the systems. Sorry to say it, but you're totally wrong. Sony themselves have stated that they're willing to take a hit on the systems, if it means they can make that up in games. It'd be nice if they could turn a profit on every PSP sold, but it aint gonna happen.

Yeah, it just doesn't make sense, like I said... Yes, PS2 technology is cheaper today than it was when it came out, but even so, the miniaturizing of the system's components adds to the cost, and I haven't heard of any gaming consoles nowadays which sell even at their actual production cost, so yeah...

Yeah you are right, they won't make money on every sold system. I should have chosen my words more carefully in my previous posts. But Sony do infact expect to start profiting on the PSP after they've shipped/manufactured 3 million PSP units. As Kutaragi says: "That will be the break-even point for Sony's PSP to start making a profit."
