Default PSP Japanese Price & Release Date

PSP Enters Japanese Market on 12 December at 20,790 Yen

Tokyo, October 27, 2004 Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI), announced today that it would release its new handheld video game system, PSPTM (PlayStationPortable) (PSP-1000), on December 12, 2004, at a recommended retail price of 19,800 yen excluding tax (20,790 yen including tax) for the Japanese market.
With high-quality graphics processing capability equivalent to that of PlayStation 2, in addition to rich stereo sound, PSP offers the joy of playing full-scale 3D-CG games and viewing high resolution video images anytime, anywhere.

Equipped with a wireless LAN feature (IEEE802.11b), PSP enables users to connect to the Internet through access points, making it possible for users to download game characters and content and also to play games on-line with families, friends and on-line community members. For a more intimate gaming experience, a maximum of 16 PSP systems can be connected wirelessly through the ad-hoc mode allowing family and friends to create an instant yet powerful local on-line entertainment community (*1).
PSP features an integrated high output lithium-ion battery that provides play time of between 4 and 6 hours for game titles and continuous 4 to 5 hours for video viewing. (SCEI actual measurement) (*2)

With PSP, the world of PlayStation, peoples most favorite platform, is further enhanced. A 4.3 inch wide 16:9 high resolution LCD screen, the largest in a handheld gaming device, creates a personal environment in which to enjoy games, music and video anytime, anywhere, with a dynamism that has never been possible before.

To accompany the launch of the PSP system, a total of 21 game titles from SCE and third party software developers and publishers will be released by the end of this year. In addition to these titles, over 100 exciting new titles are currently in development. Innovative titles using the unique features of PSP, as well as PSP versions of hit titles that have been the drivers of the PlayStation platform will continuously be introduced.

Entertainment software of an entirely new category mixing game, music and video on a single UMD is expected to be released in spring 2005, further enriching the world of PSP.

With PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PSP, SCEI will continue to expand the market and create a new world of computer entertainment.

(*1) Complies with IEEE802.11b. Typical indoor range of approx. 30m at 11Mbps and approx. 91m at 1Mbps. Typical outdoor range of approx. 120m at 11Mbps and approx. 460m at 1Mbps. However, places with obstacles and strong electromagnetic waves, range may become narrower or transmission may be cut.
(*2) Measurement conditions: display luminance set to maximum (180 cd/m2) and minimum (80 cd/m2) while volume is set to half of the maximum level, headphone in use and wireless LAN not in use.

This is rather fucking great news I'd say. A pretty low price tag for what you get, much lower than what most people expected. And a battery life of 5-6 isn't that bad. About what I get from my GBA SP when using my flashcart.

And also, a new Adventure(?) RPG from Square-Enix is in the making. A PSP exclusive FFVII spin-off game! Though the 2006 release date is not at all that fun.

Title CRISIS CORE -FINAL FANTASY VII-

I'll definitely get it. Metal Gear Acid is reason enough for me.

Eh, I'll pick one up eventually. It's a cool enough little portable, but it pretty much amounts to nothing more then a portable PS2 with some added functions, and that's not something that I'm in a rush to get right now.

Eh of course. Handhelds has always been a portable version of it console counterpart. The exception is the DS and that is very exciting I tell ya.

I might or might not get a PSP at launch. It all depends on Metal Gear Acid. ^^

Well, even so, it's pretty much a PS2 even in terms of the games out for it, which is exactly why I'm not too excited about it. I'm not going to bother rushing out to buy one, just so I can play portable versions of games I can get on the PS2.

    Each to their own, eh?

There are two launch games I'm intrested in very much. MGA obviously and Lumines. Lumines seems awesome. I love Tetsuya Mizuguchi and his games. But I agree, i don't see why you'd want to buy the same games that's coming for PS2. This of course is not the case with MGA and Lumines.

Two games I couldn't give a shit about, to be blunt. I'll buy one of these things eventually, but I'm not in a rush to, get it? When games start appearing that I find interesting, then maybe my excitement over this thing will increase. Till then, I'm not going to join the PSP bandwagon.

Whatever mate. I'm not going to push you into getting one, and it was not my intention to do so. That's not the purpose of this thread either way.

I'm pretty much enjoying my life right now. The PSP haters are worried all over the net.

I know man, I know. I was just giving you my opinion, really. I see people all over the place jumping on the PSP bandwagon just cause it's a Sony product, and I'm just telling you I'm not going to be one of those people. I'm not planning on getting one until it gets some games I could give a rats-ass about.

EDIT: And I'm not saying that you're one of those people, BTW, just that I see them all over the place, good 'ole GameFAQ's for instance.

I just thought you got the impression I'm trying to push you down a cliff or something... -___-

    But I understand.

Not at all man. We've discussed the PSP before, and you've never tried to push me into it. I have no reason to believe you would now.

Yeah we certainly have. And nope, no reason to. Afterall I'm not that loyal to either Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo that I'd try to get other people to buy their systems. I want games, not the systems really.

Just as it's the food you want, not the tools used for the cooking or something.

I think if I were in the fortunate market of being able to afford such gagitary, I would go for a DS anyway, being a new idea an all.

Im also hoping they use 2 screens well, and have some decent RTS titles, and having a nice seperate place to put a map and/or HUD will be cool.

Also, men with big dicks play nintendo.
