    Default The casual industry...

A bit old, but still a fun read...

    http://www.trigames.net/newsitem.php...=172&console=0

This is the "Hollywood" aspect of videogames I so loathe and hope disappears some day... It's times like these when I take a look at Nintendo and sigh a bit of relief...

    Your thoughts...

That is some nice stuff. It really shows how hard and desparate gaming companies can get to just make a profit.

Yeah, it's sad, really... I haven't found one thing on that article (or series of...) that I don't agree with, and I find that disturbing...

"Serious" casual gaming can probably be traced back to either the Playstation or Tony Hawk.

I don't really see anything wrong with casual gamers. They may not know who Miyamoto is, but at least they appreciate and enjoy video games.

That's an A+ in my book.

Of course not all of 'em are bad, I have no gripes with casual gamers, but I do hate the way the industry is trying to hook those who're just in it for the flashiness...

    Games like DOA... Man...

I'm seriously concerned about "Rumble Roses"... Why would KONAMI do such a thing...?!?

If it's a good game, does it matter?

and you wouldn't like to see two women attacking eachother in a wrestling style format?

EDIT: but yes it doesn't seem like Konami's usual style.
So I make games now sort of. Check the out the one I have in the IGF this year, its totally free: www.mackvswindows.com

Well, Pikmin wasn't Nintendo's usual style, and it worked wonderfully.

It's a fun game for all audiences produced by the great Miyamoto san... If that's not Nintendo's style, I don't know what is...!!

I'll not turn this thread into the Pikmin discussion thread...

I liked it, never finished it, though... If something horrible happens at the end, then I agree with you...

This article is pure bullshit. Extremely biased, and very very obviously so. I could only read the first four pages, then I ran out of patience with it and just looked at the titles of the others.

Sorry about reviving this thread, but not much arguing has been done and I didn't see it until now.

I agree. Causual gamers aren't the death of videogaming, nor are games developed with them in mind.

As you said, as long as they're good, then what does it matter? Both casaul and "hardcore" gamers alike will have fun with them, and I see no problem with that. People have to accept the fact that gaming has become mainstream. It's just how it is. There's nothing wrong with that. In fact, it's a good thing. Gaming is being accepted by a wider variety of people, and so we'll get a wider veriety of games to appeal to all sorts of gamers...

I'm glad you revived this thread Zigfried. I missed it when it the first time around.

EDIT: After reading a bit of this, I have to agree with Zigfried. I wonder what this fellow's on about.......
