You can't play DC ISOs if your DC was made after October 2000. Or at least I don't think you can.
Both dreamcasts that ive owned can play backups luckily. One i got the xmas it came out, but i bought my current one used, works fine
i wonder why you can't play backup games on the Dreamcast systems after october 2000?
Helping people with emulation problems.
All in how they made the CD laser. Same thing with xbox stuff, certain DVD drives read better then others
Sega figured out what people were doing. They noticed that while including the CD Filesystem read loop in the boot process was convenient for the users wanting to play an Audio CD, they also figured out that users who wanted to boot an ISO were using the same read loop. They then closed the loop with a hardware upgrade in Nov 2000. This is when the Dreamcast became Non MIL Compliant.Originally posted by Fighter17

The Dreamcast did a little special process to play and read audio CDs. The selfboot ISOs took advantage of this process to run code. Sega noticed this and then removed that process. I hope you understand that.

What about homebrew DC games (like emulators and games people make) can they be played on a DC made after Nov. 2000?
http://www.dcemulation.com/
They should have all the info
Actually I've tried half the emulators and they all worked (my DC is old) for me but I just wanted to know out of cuorsity if they'd work.
Sprung have you tried any of those emulators? Like NesterDC?
