How will the earth come to an end?

Here's my take on the end of the world:

GOD decides that he has played enough SIMS with us ~ he puts us on automode after 12 hrs straight of gaming. He comes back a day later and sees that we've already moved onto space colonies or created renewable energy sources on Earth (or laughs that we were destroyed by aliens that he designed and added). Satisfied/bored that he can generate a comparatively real civilization, he reboots his PC (yup that's our end as we know it! or is it? ) He goes and plays NBA 2096 before he crams for PreCalc. The end.

500MT....you got ne pictures/sources? to what i have heard, the biggest is a 20MT missle called the ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistics Missle).

New develepment;

my source is about halfway accurate.. a disgruntled, atheist, politically incorrect science teacher.. he's a pretty smart guy.. he was a history major in college.. he told us that it was developed during the cold war's arms race.. once the power started getting out of hand, there was a treaty made.. sorta like "you stop, we stop" type of thing.. so all the planet killers were dismantled, and removed from the world's potential knowledge.. so i can kinda understand that it really isn't 500MT but i bet it is higher than 20MT..

first id like to say that you guys are sick, talking about the end of the world, and second, i want in! i reckon that humans will eventually find the ultimate set of genes and simply clone our people, like the Azgard did. we will lose the ability to reproduce (God save us all, no SEX!!!) and the entire human race will mass suicide when they find out they cant have sex any more... doesn't matter to me, im gonna be dead by the time im 23, so clone all you want you barstards! jk!

What are supernovae? Well, there are several types which are called Type Ia, Type Ib, Type Ic, Type IIP and Type IIL.

Type Ia: Type Ia Supernovae result from a white dwarf star (which is essentially the core of a star like our sun after it has evolved to a giant star and gradually blown its outer hydrogen and helium shells off in a stellar wind) that is in a binary star system pulling mass off of another star. As the matter builds up on the surface of the white dwarf it gets hotter and the pressure on the interior grows to the point where the Carbon and Oxygen that the star is made from can undergo fusion into Iron. Now this would be fine if there were large envelopes of hydrogen and helium around the star but their aren't and all of the energy from the fusion blow the star apart in a huge explosion. These stars may all reach very nearly the same brightness and so may be used to determine distance to far away galaxies where they occur.

The rest of the types of supernovae result from high mass stars not white dwarfs. Here is a description.

Type Ib: Type Ib Supernovae result from a high mass star that has blown off much of its outer hydrogen and helium shells and so resemble most closely a Type Ia supernovae. They are somewhat dimmer however as much of the light is absorbed by the surrounding nebula of material that the star has just recently thrown off. There is no helium seen in the spectrum of a Type Ib supernova.

Type Ic: Type Ic Supernovae result from a hight mass star that has blown off much of its outer hydrogen layer but still has a significant helium layer. Therefore, it is similar to a Type Ib except that the presence of helium is seen in its spectrum.

Type IIP: Type IIP Supernovae result from a high mass star that still has much of its surrounding hydrogen and helium shells. The result if the expanding shock wave from the explosion match the recombination wave of the nebula surrounding the star then the photosphere remains a constant size and the brightness stays the same for many weeks or months before the light emitted is dominated by the radioactive decay of N56, C56, and Fe56.

Type IIL: Type IIL Supernovae result from a high mass star that doesn't have a significant amount of matter in a nebula around it and so the brightness decreases in pretty much a straight sloped line.

As you can tell there is a continuum of super nova types that occur. That is, Types Ib, Ic, IIP, and IIL all result from the same explosion mechanism, the collapse of the core of a giant star. Type Ia supernovae, however, result from the thermonuclear explosion of a compact white dwarf star. Type Ia supernovae are about a factor of 10 times brighter than the other types of supernovae typically are.

it has come to my imidiate attention that some or all of you have hit your heads quiet hard therefor giving you a stone age personality incherent to the programming fo the matrix and ....eh? sorry im not sure what im saying, look, by the time the sun blows we will have found a new planet to live on cause of all the polution (phantasy star online baby!) and we will have androids in our comunity that look almost real so people like bad neighbour can have mind boggling and sick disgusting sex with them (yeah thats right he gun rewrie the kamasutra....at 400x) erm yeah and err we will have big flying ships and all our houses will have central heating from Mario brothers .inc, and a top class fire fighting team called burning rangers, and races on the new earth...or...bob (titan ae....i know i suck!) featuring strange mutated hedgehogs with 9 big blue spikes and we will make them wear little white gloves and call them sonic, and errrr, we shall have goron races andddd... computer games will have evolved to holodecks like star trek (cough) and we will be able to play all sortsa games like Super Mario 1024, and sonic adventure 20, and not forgetting Final Fantasy XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXVII,
