Ok, I DL'ed BT ++, and when I go to Dl something, I get extremely slow speeds (I mean like 0.1 K and WORSE)

    How can I solve this?

By the way...please dont use the BT terms..I need plain 'ole english...

I have alot to give, and I'd love to help, but BT just seems extremely slow...thank you for any help offered.

If you are behind a firewall you could be blocking several seeds (people to download from). You also need to have a fast upload. The more you upload the more you download. If you aren't getting very fast downloads just close the download and reopen the torrent file. If you follow these you can get speeds of over 100 kb/sec like me and many others.

    thats an understatement..

and also the speed depends upon the number of people downloading the file at that time.. the torrent could be very new and not have a lot of people or could be dead and have almost nobody..

Are you using broadband connection, marvel? It is preferred if you have BB to use BT.

    They are hot, aren't they??

I'm using the archaic, very old 1-way cable...I've got 1 meg down, but only 56 K upstream...I kinda like out in the boonies, so this is the best possible...

As for firewalls, I dont have one...anything else you all can think of?

If you set your upload speed to use all of your availible upload bandwidth then your download will get choked by it. Try experimenting with your upload speed and see what gives you the best results. To be honest though, with a 56kbps upstream your BT download won't get that fast no matter what you do. Unless there are a lot more seeds than leechers, expect no more than 10k a sec.

You also might want to try Burst or Shadow's BT clients. For you, they might work better than BT++. I use Burst myself. Try different BT clients until you find the one that's right for you.

bt.degreez.net, set it to dail-up / isdn, also wait a while most Bittorent clients start with the most uncommon parts, which means that the speed at the beginning won't be very good most of the times, just give it a little while to speed up.

That's why I use Burst because it starts downloading right away, and gets up to speed rather quickly, almost from the outset.

Heh, almost all clients can be switched to download the most common parts first, but that would be a fools tactic, would look faster but if one of the more uncommon parts would go offline you would have to wait, and wait, and wait.

I have a firewall and use shadows bit torrent client (I think its called experimental BT) and its taken ages of waiting and much uploading (I mean more uploading than downloading here.. much more) but Ive finally got to 14 - 15 k/s.
When it was starting it wasnt even getting 1 k/s.

But I dont think that with 56k upload speed you will get far. Its only fair if you think about it anyway.. if nobody uploaded much nobody would get.

    Its just how filesharing works.

Im stuck on the yellow status and even though I use virtual servers to open the right ports it stays yellow and therefore I seem limited >.<

Now we know how viral bunny signatures really spread.

Ehmm the faster the better actually.

Currently downloading from Bittorent at 187kb/s, add that up to my FTP transfer, and Winamp streaming music and I'll most likely be at my max bandwith.

On popular files I've gotten upwards of 700 kb/s DL. That's some good shit.

As have I. I generally use Shadow's client, at the link posted by Ace. I have never liked BT++ or Burst. They introduce useless features. All you need is the ability to control bandwidth and pause the torrent.

If you have Windows XP, you likely have the built-in firewall enabled. BT's ports must be open on your router or software firewall to achieve nominal speeds. Like Ace is said, it is a matter of controlling your bandwidth. I allow my upload to exceed 20kB/s first, and then I switch to "dial-up/ISDN". Downstream is proportional to upstream, so as my connections and upstream speed decrease, my download increases exponentially. I generally download anime at 200kB/s and higher, with just a few seeds and several peers.
