    I personally don't see the problem with d/ling mp3s.

I mean, just a few weeks ago, it was just fine.

Maybe those jerks at RIAA want a taste of my Kamehameha Wave.

The sad thing is that they will only hurt a small percentage of the users...in the end it will only make a small dent

Thats what I am getting as well from this whole thing, I just don't see it possible to sue all these people it would just cost, and take more then OUR life times thats for sure to sue us all currently useing kazza winmx, earth station 5 ( yes you heard right I learned some new info ). In the end it all counts on luck. However in this case it's more bad luck then anything else. You see thats why I myself continue to get my mp3s off of newsgroups.

but...if you don't have a good connection...say 56k...your connection may be low enough that other people's faster connection will show up first. They get busted.

I will stop downloading MP3's as soon as they stop this 'It only hurts the artist' bullshit and quit playing talentless pricks like Robbie Williams 80m quid for a few over-rated, over-hyped albums. Im not adverse to buying albums, indeed I have bought a fair few recently, but asides from those I cannot and will not warrant spending money on an album comprised mainly of filler tracks when the music I want is only a few clicks away. Sorry, and all that.

Exactly! Thank you for saying that! I'll stop downloading music once they start getting people with actual talent making CDs. What kind of talent does Britney Spears have? Wow, she has a nice singing voice and large hooters. **** the president of a record company and BAM, she's on the air making millions upon millions of dollars!

It's even worse when I can't get the CDs I want to get because the stores are cluttered with all of this "pop" shit. If record companies would ship CDs out to this area of the country instead of this stupid "pop" stuff, I might actually purchase more CDs. They have only themselves to blame, because now I have to pay 25 USD + shipping to get an album I want, and that my friends it too much money for 11 songs.

I think they meant that some individual artists don't enforce the copyrights on their music.

And some CDs are way too much. Soil, I believe it was, is something like $24.99 Canadian at HMV for 13 tracks. I'll spend maybe $20 on a CD without tax, but no way I'm paying 25.

I thought this was rather interesting. This is Canada's views on copying/downloading music and listening to it, as well as on filesharing.

This is moreso in response to Darth Frogger saying that the RIAA can't do anything to Canadians. While they can't, it's still against the law. Just not in the same effect as to other countries.

    http://www.mp3.com

You are allowed to download music from there, are you not? Thus, you are downloading MP3s. From the Internet.

Good point...but if someone would be doing a search the fastest connections will show up first in the results. There are people who have near constant connections and are sharing lots of files over faster connections. They would be the first to pop up and first busted. Someone with a slow connection might fly a little lower "under the radar" sort of thing. Even if they have the file, chances are that the people hunting them are searching for a popular artist. TONS of other people with faster connections should show up first.
Even if this isn't the case, I have KazaaLite K++ that gives a generic user name, says it uses an IP blocker AND it limits how many files that can be seen in your shared folder. It's all in the readme. Granted this stuff isn't much, but it does have some deterring qualities to it. Why go to any effort to crack into someone's IP if you can get so many easier targets?
I think it's still alot of scare tactics anyway as someone stated earlier. RIAA even stated they will not press charges "if you turn in a notarized statement that you won't do it again". phht....
Why am I worried? I've only downloaded Weird Al songs lately. Nobody really searches for that. The sparse songs available and cheaply renamed crap will prove that. Guys "Make My Boobies One More Size" and "Weenie in a Bottle" are NOT WEIRD AL SONGS......I HATE renamers.
