Suggesting this because those are the cutoff points on actual performance improvements. Cards like the GTX 740 or R7 250 are crap. GTX 1050 is probably your best bet.

Cards below the points in the lines that I mentioned are nothing but a waste of money (regardless of series). I'd try to get a 750ti. If you have enough space in the case and the PSU isn't a piece of crap you could look at other older cards as well.

The only major difference, to me, is that there are less titles between good and suck than there used to be.
