Default Magic School Lunar - Action stops on battle screen - Yabause

So, a friend and I have been trying to play through Magic School Lunar for the Sega Saturn in Japanese as sort of practice for myself; However, upon entering any battle screen, after having one of the characters attack, action pretty much stops. Idle animations continue to play, for all intents and purposes the game is still running, it's just as if the game cannot continue to the next action. Furthermore, there is no music, but this isn't that important to us.

Actions continue as normal if we have all characters defend, this only occurs after attempting to attack/use magic. . .of course, this isn't really optimal for I think obvious reasons, haha.

We are using the ISO received from this site, as well as the version of Yabause linked on this site (0.9.14 64 bit). I myself have tested both ISOs (the one labeled Magic School Lunar and the one labeled Mahou Gakuen Lunar), as well as an older version of Yabause (0.9.11 32 bit). In the case of using the older version of Yabause, music plays, but the same issue occurs once I enter a battle screen. I did select a Japanese BIOS (Sega Saturn BIOS v1.00 (JAP)). Default video/audio cores.

Looking on the website for Yabause, it seems that Magic School Lunar is listed as "untested". I. . guess that can be changed now, haha!

Any suggestions are welcome. I did search this forum for both Magic School Lunar as well as Mahou Gakuen Lunar, and unfortunately didn't find anything. Thanks in advance!

    SSF may do better

http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?67974 has more info for SSF

Can't say I tested that game either in SSF or Yabause or even with my actual Saturn

I appreciate the suggestion. I did glance at SSF, though it gave me pause when it turned out that it did not support simply running from a .bin file. I'll look at your guide and give it a try when I get the chance.

Any further suggestions are still appreciated!

An update - I followed Zorlon's guide, and SSF runs the game more or less flawlessly. Much thanks!

Goodguy if you want the ins and outs on setting these up right I can help.

Vanilla Yabause is a tad rough to use, SSF is outdated and dead, appears the author gave up and has not released the source code to help further develop Sega Saturn emulation.

I use Yabause via Retroarch and it runs decently and CD based disc images must be normally loaded via the descriptor file (cue/ccd/etc.)
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.
