Default Pokémon on OSX El Capitan

Has anyone successfully played through Pokémon on OSX El Capitan without suffering from save game issues?

I recently started a fresh save of the 'Thunder Yellow' mod on OpenEmu only to read that it might become corrupt once I reach the Elite Four due to the game requiring the 128k flash save file format (which OpenEmu does not currently support.)

I have completed Fire Red in the past using Visual Boy Advance (which supports 128k) but for some reason this emulator keeps crashing for me after updating to El Capitan. I could stick with OpenEmu, but I'd be gutted if I went through the effort of levelling my squad up only for my save game to become unplayable...

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Yup setup the save data correctly to start with or....

remove all old save data for pokemon and other games that do not detect the save type correctly and grab the vba-over.ini file from http://www.emuparadise.me/links-and-...vba-over.ini/5

I can't find a way to set OpenEmu to 128k, is it possible? How does the vba-over.ini file work?

Sorry I thought you said you are using VBA I somehow totally missed OpenEmu that I never heard of, but if 128k saves are not supported there is nothing you can do about that, not with OpenEmu anyway

Just use VBA (I do believe it was ported to mac as well as the later mods like VBA-M), any reason you need to use OpenEmu instead??? vba-over.ini would over ride the settings VBA auto detects with the correct settings as the pokemon games seem to detect wrong (as well as a select few other games) also the RTC is not auto enabled that is also needed by some if not all the GBA pokemon games

OpenEmu is my usual go-to emulator but the lack of support for 128k is a big drawback here.

VBA appears to load and save the rom but for some reason it doesn't display properly on any setting other than 1x Video size (please see pic.) Any ideas on how to fix this so I can play in fullscreen or at least on 4x video?

if you are not using 1.6.0 then try that version or try out vba-m and see if that makes a difference

you can also try changing the render method from whatever is default to one of the other options, that should be in Options>Video>Render Method, then try Full screen 2x ect again

    FYI:
Managed to find a workaround for Pokémon hacks on OpenEmu by hex-editing the rom so that the emulator recognises it as Fire Red and it is now fully playable and saveable.
