Right, as the title says, I'm thinking of upgrading my computer. At the moment, it has 256MB SDRAM. I'm thinking mixing SDRAM and DDR isn't a very good idea... is that right? And should I get more SDRAM or just go for DDR... I've got an Athlon ATX Motherboard (i think), if u need to know...

If you chuck in DDR when you allready have SDRAM it will run at the SDRAM speed. Weakest link speed.
If SDRAM is cheaper get it because the DDR you buy isn't going to be as fast as the stuff you can buy when you next upgrade your computer.
Wow, I've never knew you could put different RAMs in. cool, cause I always buy the same kind just in case.
i most of the motherboards i;ve used you cant use DDR with SD. you better check your manual before you buy anything.
Mxing different types of RAM will generally cause stability problem in your comp so beware...As for your RAM problem, I will stick a DDR RAM sicne it is faster than normal SDRAM but make sure you buy those with names like Kingston or Micron.
Mixing the RAM is a bad idea. You'll never know when it'll screw up your comp. Also lack stability.
The older DDR motherboards could do it easily, the problem comes when you try and chuck SD-RAM in a system that is allready running DDR.

did you compare with same work load under same applications, with same system configuration?
but yea system properties will always catch your changes to ram or cpu.
it could be the case that yours is ddr and your friend is sdram. if you can open the case, you can actually tell the differences between the two. ddr is actually longer (i believe)

Right, I got another question, :D!
I was at a computer fair a few days ago and picked up a bit of RAM for my old computer... It origionally had 16MB (its about 8 or 9 years old) and I put in a 64MB (the smallest i could find...) but when I turn it on, it only says there is 32MB on the bios thingy... any suggestions?
Your computer probably just can't read that density of ram (I think this is the right way of describing it anyway).

I bought the wrong RAM (or so I thought...) and they gave me an RMA number which paid for shipping there and back.

i just checked out hte specs for my pc..
166mhz..
32mb ram..
2.56gig hd..
and a 56k connection all on win95..
how am i faster than an average budget pc..
you know like 433mhz?
