My problem is that I put all the roms, (.dm files), onto the cart, and it's just not getting read. They aren't listed as possible selections. I can run the emulator just fine, it's just not noticing the games, so I can't play any. :(

I read that it can only read .gen, .smd, and .bin files. How can I get these files converted from the downloads on this site? http://www.pocketheaven.com/ph/wiki/JEnesisDS#Features

do I just have to change the file extension?

For those of you like me who ran into a nightmare upon trying to start disc 2, look no further! I poured over the entire internet trying to find a solution and finally found an easy one at another forum. (I literally searched for hours and tried a bunch of stuff, not limited to: downloading RE:CV disk 2 3 times, trying to write a discjuggler cdi file, attempting programs like bin2boot which i couldn't get to work for some reason).

Okay, here is the original thread that saved me:
http://forums.ngemu.com/misc-dreamca...t-demul-2.html

What this guy said, was this:
__________________________________________________ ________
First Step

download Exoboot (http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.ph...&page=18&pp=15) and follow the instructions there

Second Step

Convert the CD 2 file to a self-boot image using EXOBOOT. This tool is easy and intuitive, you'll see it

Third Step

Download DAEMON TOOLS 3.29 (wrote that in google and you gonna find it) and load the image created by EXOBOOT. Then run Chankast, load the game. **IMPORTANT: The image only works in DAEMON TOOLS 3.29, if you use another version it won't work.**

Fourth Step

ENJOY!
__________________________________________________ ________

his words, not mine. But his words are true. Don't worry about using Daemon Tools if you are using nullDC like me, because it will boot your newly created "RE:CV Disc 2" image all by itself.

He goes by the name "preacher_matzi" so if this works for you then direct all your praise his way for making the most relevant post ever on this huge problem!

Is this something to do with my emulator or is that a bug in the game?
Here's the link: http://www.emuparadise.org/Sega_Drea...E_Veronica/151
Thanks for the help, if i get it. If not, just thanks for at least reading. :)

Also, i would like to ask, in case you re-upload that, to upload a version compatible to the one in the first link. I really don't want to play that all over again. =( Hehe thx again. :nerd:

I thought I burned wrong or something so I checked it on SSF and it works so I kept trying to fast swap and got it to boot once but I cant do it again.

I can fast swap effortlessly with all other games but this one. What is going on here? THis is the whole reason that I dug up my saturn and came to this site...sigh...haha. I will take any advice! The mod chip would not work on my stupid 64 pin model 2 and my pc is too weak for SSF.

My NullDC was working perfectly with those minor bugs and such that the emulator itself is said to have. Then, one day, i was playing SoA and had just entered Valua and decided to check out my items, so i pressed the equipment/nasty thingies button and waited. Waited a bit more. Just some time more. Okay now 20 minutes waiting was too long. So, i "accidentally" clicked "Debug -> Debugger -> Start" and now my NullDC won't work anymore, not only with SoA but with ANY game. Well, that's about it. Maybe this could happen to other people, or maybe im just unlucky.:dead:
Anyhow, if you could help, please do. I should say i will be thankfull, or gratefull, but i really don't know wich one i will be or if it is spelled that way, so hehe well ya know, thx.:-)

I don't know why it's giving me these issues now. I'm trying to emulate on Chankast. And when I do manage to make an image (with errors), I load it up via Daemon Tools, boot up Chankast (drive is setup), and all I get is a screen as if no game is inserted, when I know for a fact that all the DC games I've got are self boots. >.> Can someone help?

Hello all.

I've recently discovered that it's possible to burn a selfbooting Marvel vs. Capcom 2 disc for dreamcast that uses a custom soundtrack, as opposed to the elevator music that comes with the game. I'm using the guide found here to do it. I've successfully turned all the mp3's I want to use into .bin files, so I'm pretty sure my problem has nothing to do with that.

In the guide, it tells me to scrap the 1st_read.bin and IP.bin files that came with the selfbooting .cdi file (which I got from the main site), and substitute them with "fresh" ones, as the guide calls it. Google has not helped me at all in finding "fresh" binary files, so I tried using the binary files that I used to make a Dream Explorer disc, but I just ended up with a disc with Dream Explorer on it. My next attempt was to just go ahead and try the binary files that came with the selfbooting MVC2 image, but that would not boot, and my Utopia disc did not help it. My third attempt was to use only the 1st_read.bin file that came with the disc, and to let Boot Dreams create an IP.bin file.. still no luck.

This is really confusing the shit out of me, because Boot Dreams has worked well for me before in creating selfbooting discs. Also, I don't know why I would have to get new binary files, when I know for a fact that the ones that came with the image I downloaded work fine. I made a mvc2 backup (totally unmodified) with the image from the main site, and it has given me no problems at all. I usually have some kind of idea what could be causing my problems when it comes to emulation, etc., but this time I am clueless.

I don't know that anyone here has made custom soundtracks for DC games, but if someone has, please help me out. I don't want those three useless CDRs I have to be wasted in vain. If there's any other info I can give that will help you help me, let me know so I can post it ASAP. Thanks in advance.

In other news, I've fixed the problem that I had with Megaupload on my computer, so the rest of my ps2 games should be making it to the forums soon : D

I've got a working version of the uptopia bootdisk, (meaning I can see the 3d reindeer) but when I drop a burned game in there, as prompted... nothing happens.

The main game I'm trying to get working is Rez, downloaded from here.
It's a .cdi file, and I've tried burning it with both alcohol 120% and discjuggler, but whenever I place it in the dreamcast and power up, it tells me to there's no disc inserted.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Frist how does one setup chankast. Alot of install guides on youtube say to set it up like any normal emu, then use daemon tools. I got all the bios, DT lite, and other stuff to get started. I guess what I'm saying is that I need someone to grab me by the hand and take me through it.
I'll report back once I unzip everything.

Just so we're clear this is prolly the best emu site around.
most of the rest are all secrective about it. Kinda like the MUGEN community.

Also if I remember correctly, PSO v1 had a cd serial # that you had to put in before you could play.....or was that just for online play...hell IDK it's been years

I've found lots of conflicting information on this subject on the internet, so I figured it would be best to just have somebody answer the questions that I have.

I have a model 1 NTSC-U Dreamcast that was manufactured in April of 2000. I downloaded Rez (PAL) from the main site, and I want to play it on my DC. After extracting it twice, I ended up with a .cdi, a .nfo, and a .sfv file. I've found pages that claim the .cdi means the game will self boot, and others that say that I will need a file called IP.BIN in order for the game to self boot.

These are my queries:
1. What is the best thing for me to do in order to override the region code? I would prefer not having multiple boot discs lying around, so I was thinking about the Utopia Boot Disc. I don't know if it's region free, though.

2. What do I need to put on the game disc? Is the .cdi file enough? Is the .sfv file necessary?

3. In the future, will I need to have an IP.BIN file in order to burn games that will self boot?

4. Zorlon's guide states that my model 1 DC will only play data/data mil-cd's. I really don't know enough about this to tell what is on the sessions of this image. Can anyone confirm that model 1 DC's will only play data/data mil-cd's? If so, how can I tell what is on the image's sessions?

Normally, I would let trial and error figure these things out for me, but, considering I only have 2 cd-r's left, I need to make sure I get this right the first time.

Any and all help is very appreciated.

EDIT: I'm switching to the NTSC-J version of the game. Due to a momentary brain fart, I forgot that I don't have a tv that runs at 50 hz. However, this still leaves me with the problem of bypassing the region.

I also need to add another question. Can I use the same VMU to store save files from different regions?

Problems experienced
1) While playing Sherlock Holmes Detective Series Volume 1 in Kega Fusion 3.64-
-after i gather enough data to be able to see the judge, when i press stop on the judge video [after he tells me to choose from either notepad or directory]
it just freezes, or at least seems to freeze, making it so im unable to do anything but reboot the emu or pick another rom to play :/

2) I tried playing Corpse Killer with all the emus i have (mentioned above) and after the intro sequence i cant do anythin :WP: , (although randomly, when i press 'b' it goes through the choices of -options- start- but it doesn't always do that.
all bioses are in place and configured.

3) I really enjoy Night Trap. that in it's self seems to be my biggest problem, but best leave that for another time.

Im using SSF Ver0.10 alpha
Okay everything was fine it loaded up, and I configured it properly and everything was fine but I tried to play a game and it was American, and I had the euro bios and european local configured in the options part so obviously it wasn't going to work, but the problem I have is, I reconfigured the options for the American BIOS and locall and clicked OK, the Emu just crashed, I tried to run the Emu again but only the small window comes up before the emu starts and thats it, and whats worse I can't close it without logging off my computer. So I deleted the whole Emu and then redownloaded it but the same problem still exists, So could that crash have done something to my registry that will not allow it to play or something else I have to fix for it to work, and why would changing the BIOs make the Emu crash?
Any solution would be very appreciated
Emm If it matters here are my specs

I have downloaded several dreamcast images, and burned them successfully. I have found that for Zombie Revenge, when I immediately take the disc out of the burner, that it will play on my Dreamcast. However, when time passes and I put the disc back into the player, it will not boot, and appears as a music cd.

Has this specific issue been encountered before by the community? I'd appreciate a specific answer - I have done some research and seen the general troubleshooting responses (i.e. use a boot disc first )

I never played the dreamcast when it came out, just got one last month and I think it is now my favourite retro console! I am looking forward to making it my new hobby.

Kinda choppy..as in I'll be able to see 1/4 of the screen in the character select screen. Or sometimes during game play.

My specs are : AMD Athlon 64x2 Due Core Processor 4400+ 2.3GHz w/ 2GB ramm

NVIDIA GeForce6150SE nForce 430 graphics card.

So I know the computer should be able to handle it. Are my FPS off or something, idk i've been searching for an answer a couple of days now...thas after a few days of trying to get nullDC to work lol! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. And I can hear noise coming from the game..any thoughts?

I'm probably doing something wrong, but my computer doesn't seem to recognize the CD properly after burning it. I burnt the image to a regular CD-R. In my computer, the CD says it has 79.9MB free, so obviously something was burnt to it. When I open it, I see nothing in there. When I try to boot from it in chankast, the emulator crashes.

I used MagicISO to burn the image.

It was .cdi format, all the games are self-boot, and I burned them with Disc Juggler. I used DC Hakkar to check the games, and Prince of Persia has the music file on the disc, it just wont load when I play.

Is there any way I can fix this? The opening FMV in PoP has music, though.

Hey guys, I would like to preface this by thanking you in advance for your patience.

I've been spending my free time for the last couple of days pulling my hair out trying to get a DC emulator to work.

I tried both nullDC and Chankast.

When I run nullDC with the Chankast graphics plugin, I get the distorted graphics that most people seem to get with the Chankast graphics plugin. However, when I switch to the nullDC graphics plugin, there's a white screen, then a black screen, then it says "nullDC stopped working, Windows is searching for a solution" Then is closes because, as we all know, Windows never finds a solution!

So I decided to give up on nullDC and try Chankast. I can get it to run but with the same distorted graphics. Also, it only runs as an audio CD. (Yes, I switched to different drivers).

I'm kind of a noob when it comes to computer hardware and software so I may be wrong but I think I found my problem.

I only have Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family graphics card. It came stock with my laptop. Is that good enough and my problem lies elsewhere? If it's not good enough, is there a way around the problem without having to buy more hardware?

I have Vista Home Ed(32) and I'm trying to play PSO.

If you need any more information, please ask.

Thanks

I burned many games (dreamcast games mostly) using princo cds usually there isn't any problem but some games that I burned about three years ago started to malfunction, specially those that I played the most in that time. I take really good care of my games but what if my dreamcast is the problem, recently burned games work fine though.
Should I repair my dreamcast? or the same fate awaits to all my burned games.

the reason I'm asking is because I've been reading about the ongoing discussion over discs with dummy data being far easier to read on a dreamcast than that of ones that are burnt closer to the centre of the disc.
thanks for any help.

Ok I'm having a problem trying to run Shenmue (PAL) on my Chankast.

Basically everything runs too fast. Frames say 60 (if i'm reading the right number), I've set Vsync on forced for my graphics card and setting the emulator into Full Screen seems to have fixed most issues. (The menu with the VMU's etc is now normal speed and the Shenmue game menu is all normal now)

However the game and in-game videos are just too fast, despite the frames saying 60, so how do I set it to 50? (how I remember most Dreamcast games actually played) I have no options to do so and it's frustrating me.

I'd heard that Audio Sync forces it to 50, but I haven't got that option?

Lastly a quick BIOS question: I ripped my own BIOS but notice that never save my settings in Chankast. I have to reset time, auto-off and language everytime I start the emulator? Baffles me why it starts in spanish when my BIOS were always run in English.

After the whole Sega Saturn fiasco(I tried to chip my Saturn and both modchips were defective, ruining my Saturn), and since I'm also looking to get a TurboDuo, my friend gave me the idea of getting a netbook and using the VGA connector to put it on my HDTV. Now, this sounds like a good idea, as this netbook is the same price as a Saturn and TurboDuo. My only concern is that while I know that it can run TurboDuo via Magic Engine, will a netbook run Sega Saturn games?

Here is the specs:

Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition SP3
160G, 2.5inch, 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
1GB DDR2 SDRAM
Intel® Atom™ Processor N450 (1.6GHz/667Mhz FSB/512MKB cache)

Will it run with these specs? I'd like to know before tomorrow as Dell has a deal where it's $279.
